Students from La Vernia High School leave the campus after the final bell on Thursday, Mar. 30, 2017. In the wake of recent events which resulted in arrests of 10 students for hazing other students and charged with sexual assault, La Vernia ISD Superintendent Jose H. Moreno has urged his staff, administrators and teachers to help students return to normalcy. Citing that the students charged are a mere small percentage of their high school population which is about 1,075 enrolled, Moreno suggests that the alleged horrific acts taken were fostered by an "underground culture of acceptance" and are not in accordance to the district's core values. At the high school, Moreno said educators will help students acknowledge that something occurred, that things will be okay and that "we are moving forward" with their commitment to the students and to education. On Thursday, Mar. 30, 2017, as part of that return to normalcy, the high school baseball team returned to practice. (Kin Man Hui/San Antonio Express-News)
